Secret for Teens Revealed is coming to Kindle!

March 2, 2011

When I had an email from a parent in the Netherlands, asking if “The Secret for Teens Revealed” would be available in Kindle format, I knew it was time to go digital. The digital age is here! I have since embraced my own Kindle Reader and am learning how to access books, magazines and blogs from this little handheld device.

It made me think. What will happen to my bookshelf? All my book purchases in the future are going to be stored on my Kindle home page. How incredible is that for saving space! I wish I could file away all my favorites digitally, and use the shelf space for something else, like photos of my daughter at the zoo.

So, I am waiting patiently for my book to go live with the Kindle version. Any day now, they tell me. In the mean time, I am learning how to use this device myself, as I embrace the digital age, knowing how different my future is going to be now. I have even heard that schools districts are embracing Kindle readers. Will my daughter be reading on a tablet, simliar to the tablet my Mom wrote on while growing up in England? Instead of chalk, will she be pushing buttons to learn? It makes you think, doesn’t it. The digital age is here, and The Secret for Teens Revealed will be available soon in Kindle format! Stay tuned to http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Teens-Revealed-Teenagers-Leadership/dp/1604940336/ref=cm_pdp_lm_itm_title_2!

Using the Law of Polarity to Change Your Results

November 14, 2010

What is the LAW of POLARITY and How Can You Use It?

The Law of Polarity or Opposites declares that “everything has an opposite.” If there is some good to something, there must equally be some bad. When something negative happens to you, remember there is always something positive to learn from that situation, no matter how dire the problem is.

This Law really makes you think. When faced with a difficult situation, try to see the parts of the problem that are positive. I know this is not easy to do (I struggle to do this as well) but when you can get your mind around the negative, there is always a positive situation waiting for you.

Try This FUN Activity for One Week -

Example-Situation for a 10th grader-

Left Side-Negatives- don’t get to play basketball, wont be able to spend time with your friend who made the team, will miss out on all the fun of traveling with the team to away games, miss out on practices where your skills could be improved.

Right Side-Positives- Can open yourself up to another team, perhaps Cross Country Running, more time to focus on something else you want to do, meet new people as you look at another interest, improve skills in an area you might now have realized was important to you at the time.

You can see the point. Open up your mind to something new with the Law of Polarity and learn how to expand your thinking and life experiences with this skill.

We know the saying the insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. Well, how do we change our habits and behaviors to do something differently? We need to look at our problems from an entirely different point of view to make changes.

When we shift our point of view, our attitude changes and we create a whole new level of understanding. We often can see something entirely new that we did not know existed before.

Change My Results NOW -
This is the KEY to SUCCESS in your life. If you want to change your results in any area, you just need to change your thoughts. It’s that simple! If you change your thinking to more positive thoughts, your level of vibration will change. You will notice that life will become more peaceful. Things will just become easier. Developing your higher faculties of your mind will give you an “edge” that will set you apart from others.

How to Use the Law of Polarity in Your Life-

  1. Notice your point of view. Where are your thoughts coming from? Gain some understanding of yourself here. Do you immediately see the negative side of a situation, or can you see both positive and negative?
  2. Do you have a negative situation in your life bringing your emotions down? See if you can change the situation around in your mind to see some positives, and see what happens to the problem. Did it change it at all with this new way of thinking?
  3. Notice how shifting your emotions makes you feel more powerful and in control of the outcome of the challenges in your life.
  4. Notice how the circumstances and situations change in your life as you change how you look at them.
  5. Notice how you ihave mproved your life with this skill.

Feedback -
How is this activity going? It is not easy to see another perspective. Help out your family members and be patient with each other. Help a friend to see the positive side of a seeminly negative situation.

Put it into Practice -
When you are struggling with a situation or problem, stop and think for a moment. What are the other perspectives? Am I seeing the whole picture, or am I trapped in my own limited thinking. Open up and find the unlimited possibilities in your life.
Note: Substitute teacher for parent and classroom for family, and this activity can be conducted in the classroom for an excellent character education activity.

Thank you Kenneth J. Kohutek, Ph.D for Your Five Star Review of The Secret for Teens Revealed

August 5, 2010

It is not often that an AMAZON reviewer takes the time and effort to review a book without being prompted, but Andrea Samadi would like to thank Kenneth J. Kohutek, Ph. D for his thoughtful and insightful review of The Secret for Teens Revealed book.  I am honored to have caught your eye with material that has changed my life, and thousands of young people’s lives, and truly appreciate the time you took to create this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A proactive approach to deal with adolescent (and adult) issues, August 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: The Secret for Teens Revealed: How Parents, Teachers, and Teenagers Can Inspire Leadership and Transform Lives (Paperback)

Andrea Samadi has hit a “homerun” with this book. Her experience as an educator and personal development instructor is blended in a way that any parent, educator, or one involved in the formation of young people should read and implement these concepts into their lives.

Ms. Samadi organizes her chapters in a manner suggesting she is very familiar with “best practices” in education. There is a pre-test before each chapter, valuable information in the middle and suggestions for taking the information into the real world. She successfully incorporates the concepts of multiple intelligence and individual learning styles in a way that involves the reader.

Pivotal points made in the introduction include a reminder that change takes time and energy. Knowledge, as measured on standardized tests, does not translate into results–in this case, personal growth.

It seems that since the beginning of the field of mental health, the focus has been on mental illness. It is past time for the current generation of young people be introduced in a systematic way to the positive aspects of their life.

The ten lessons with the five step approach in each chapter makes the text easy to follow. It may prove difficult at times to engage the student who has difficulty reading. However, there are enough exercises to engage most students.

The only concern raised when using this book was a reference on page 85 referring the reader back to the stick figure on page 58. Unfortunately, there was no stick figure on p. 58. Other than this very slight editorial error, as a psychologist and educator, I would recommend this book for any character education program or leadership class.

For those wishing to present this information to teens, it would be an excellent idea to read and apply the knowledge to their own lives before sharing the knowledge.

Activate Your Imagination for Specific Results

June 30, 2010

Learn to control what you want to visualize with your imagination with the use of your will and change the direction of your life forever.   Imagine if you learned to pinpoint exactly what you want out of your life. No more guessing, feeling helpless or out of control. Take the control back in your life by using your inner vision to draw your dreams to you with a predictable outcome. Visualizing with your imagination takes practice, but by practicing this faculty of your mind is the only way to exercise this mental muscle.
Weekly Goal - How to Visualize With Your Imagination Using Your Will to Regain Your Focus!

You know how to dream, don’t you? Well, take some time to think about what you really want. Do you know what your goals and dreams are? Spend some time just thinking about all the things you really want to do. Try to write a list of 101 goals. This may take you the whole week to complete, but don’t let yourself get writer’s block. If you get stuck, come back and try to add more a bit later. You will be surprised with some of the goals that end up on your list that came from deep within your subconscious mind once you start this activity.

Try This FUN Activity for One Week –

Take this list and see if you can prioritize goals that you want to accomplish in the next 1, 5 and 10 years. Take all of your one year goals and start your plan to bring them towards you.

How Can Visualizing with your IMAGINATION improve your results IMMEDIATELY?

When you use your inner vision to create mental images on the screen of your mind, you actually create NEW brain cells of recognition of your goal. You can have all of your five senses working together as you learn to get involved with your goals with sounds, tastes, smells and physical sensations. This is the most effective way to create your future.

How to Activate Your Imagination?

  1. Find some time where you can be alone and quiet to close your eyes and think. I like to use fifteen minutes before I go to sleep at night.
  2. Think of something that you would like to have in your life. Start with a very easy goal to test out your visualization powers. For example, if you really feel like a piece of pizza for lunch, close your eyes and visualize how great that pizza will taste, how hot the cheese will feel and how you can smell the green peppers and vegetable toppings that you like.
  3. Some of the senses you use in your visualization will come more easily than others. With time and practice, you will become adept with all senses.
  4. Practice visualizing each night, and then watch what happens. Take notice. Interesting things begin to happen when you visualize your goals with a clear expectation. You may get a call from a friend who wants to meet you for lunch, and you end up at a pizza place. Stay open to what might occur.
  5. Once you practice and perfect drawing small things to you, try some of your larger goals. There is no more effort involved in drawing a large goal to you, than one of your smaller ones, but it does take practice to follow through.

Feedback -
How is this activity going? Check in with your family to see who is drawing their goals towards them. If someone is having trouble, check to see how and what they are visualizing. Do they expect their goal to come to them? Make sure that you do not doubt what you want to draw towards you. This will only prevent your goals from becoming a reality. Hold your vision with faith and certainty and it will come, when you least expect it!

Put it into Practice -
Using your imagination to visualize your goals is the first step to goal achievement. You can take it to the next step by creating a Vision Board, and let your creativity soar with this project. Putting your goals into pictures is a fun activity that will help you move in the right direction for years to come. Most of all, please enjoy the time that you have to dream your dream, since one day, you will be living it, and you want to be sure that you chose the right dream!
Note: Substitute teacher for parent and classroom for family, and this activity can be conducted in the classroom for an excellent character education activity.

Emergency Intervention with Your Teen

May 26, 2010
An intervention is crucial as soon as you discover your teen is using drugs and alcohol. Why? Recreational use can turn into abuse and addiction, and ruin their future dreams as well as yours. So, taking the issue seriously is mandatory.

Making excuses for your teen where you condone the behavior by saying “it’s not as bad as it appears,” or you brush off the behavior as “what all teens are doing these days” will set your teen up for a lifetime of failure where they realize they can manipulate others to continue with destructive behavior. You must accept and confront the behavior to make changes. If you do not take this seriously, you will sabotage your teen’s future.

If your teen is acting out, then getting to the root of the problem will help to solve the issue. This is easier said than done, so let’s see if we can find some solutions that can work for you.

Objective to Master-
Open up the lines of communication with your teen so you can understand why they are using drugs or alcohol or acting out.  An intervention really is just a conversation where you find out as much as you can to prevent future problems or issues around this topic.

Weekly Goal -
How Well Do You Know the Teen in Your Life? How Can You Learn More to Find Out if an Intervention is Necessary?

Learn as much as you can about your teen with asking opened ended questions that elicit information. Want to find out more information on where they are going?

Where are you going tonight?
Who are you going with?
How are you getting there?
When will you be coming back?
Call them during their evening to check in with them on where things are. Has anything changed? Do they need you?

To Snoop, or not to snoop?

Some parents think it is not ok to snoop, but I disagree. If you truly care about the future of your teen, you will want to know exactly what is going on. How can you find out?

1. Search their room, backpacks or car for drugs.
2. Do you know how to see what websites your teens are using? Go to your Internet Explorer and hit control and then “h” to bring up the history of web sites.
3. What are they doing online anyway? Google their name to find out their MySpace account and take a look at this page. Teens reveal a lot of information about themselves.
4. Are they using virtual chat rooms? These are popular with teens and are very unsafe. If they are, be sure that you know which games they are playing. Explain to your teen that they are unsafe because they will never know if they are interacting with another teen their own age, or a predator. BEWARE-they should know to NEVER meet up with someone they meet in a chat room, or give them their personal information (address or phone number).

Know your own family history. Does addiction run in the family? If so, you will need to be sure that you are not in denial of the problem.
Change My Results NOW – How Do I Move on with my Life During a Crisis?
How do you stay positive when your world has been turned upside down? If you have a serious problem with your teen that is causing you stress, then you must take action now. Dr. Phil had an episode on Emergency Teen Interventions on Wed. May 19th. His advise from this show was to-It will take some time to work through these issues, but once you have stated your expectations, and your teen understands them, put your expectations in a contract so they are clear with the rules, and they understand that there are consequences for breaking these rules. Working with teens is not easy, by any means. I do know that understanding them is the key to figuring out why they are acting out. Once you can gain some understanding, you can begin to move towards a solution. The solution might not be what your teen wants to hear, but trust me, they will thank you when they have grown up, and have their own families to worry about.

 1. Strip the teen of their existence. Teens these days think they are so entitled. If they are not following the rules, they must face the consequences. Take them out of their environment. Teens in some countries are lucky to have shelter. Why do teens feel like they are owed so much? Its the parents fault. Do not give into their requests if they cannot follow the rules. Take away their cell phones and luxury items. Power corrupts them and they cannot handle this responsibility. Take it all away! Sell your house, quit your job, and live in a tin, before you let your teen rule your household. Show them who is in charge.

2. If this strategy fails, then send them to an outpatient program where they must learn how to live by the rules with structure on a daily basis. Get them off drugs and alcohol. He recommends the Turnabout Ranch in Aspen, CO.

3. If they run away from home, call the police and let them go to jail. Better safe in a cell, learning a lesson, than loose and unsafe on the streets.

4. Use “tough parenting” where you might not be popular, but you will prevent your teen from ending up dead in an alley somewhere. You also will be teaching them that they cannot make excuses for their actions when they show up late for work in the real world. Think of the message you are sending your teen if you do not teach your teen how to adhere to the basic responsibilities in life. They will be doomed, that’s for sure, and it will be your fault!

Teens have two jobs to do; get an education, and enjoy themselves as they are doing this. If they cannot do these two items, then they must be taken out of their environment so they can get back on track.

If your teen is acting out, then you must act now!  You can only do so much, and then you must hand it over to a professional to force the desired results to occur. Don’t worry about not being liked. Worry about what “could” happen if you do NOT take action.

Use your intuition and gut feelings if something feels not right.

Do you know what your teen is up to? Do you know who their friends are and what they REALLY are doing on Saturday night? Ask questions about your teen’s life and you will be amazed at what they will share. Perhaps they will tell you things other teens are doing that they don’t like, and you can take that conversation as a teachable moment to discuss the negative outcomes of certain situations. Just keep asking questions.

Try to find out as much as you can about your teen’s life by asking questions. Knowledge is power. The more you can find out, the easier it will be to work towards a solution.

You can have a formal or informal intervention with your teen. A formal intervention is planned, and needed if you feel like they are addicted and need more assistance than you can provide.

An informal intervention would work well for your first conversation with your teen.

Are you asking questions about what your teen is doing and monitoring their actions? It is hard work, but being involved in your teen’s life is very important.

Change Your Perceptions to Reprogram Your Brain and Life.

April 13, 2010

Weekly Goal - How to Change Your Perception and Reprogram Your Brain and Life!

Have you ever seen the logo on a FEDEX vehicle? Can you see the arrow in between the “e” and the “x?” If you have never seen the arrow, Google FEDEX now so you can see it. Your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. It can either see the word FEDEX, or it can see the arrow. But it cannot see both at the same time.

So, if your brain can only focus on one thing at a time, think of how limiting that is for us when the world really consists of opportunities and possibilities everywhere. If you have not seen the movie, What the Bleep, please do as it will open up your mind and change the way you look at life and the possibilities we hold, forever.

Try This FUN Activity for One Week

This week see if you can find FEDEX trucks in your path. Think about the arrow in the logo. Can you see it? If yes, think of all the possibilities that exist in your world that you may have to look at from a different angle. If no, what do you need to do to shift your attention to see the arrow?

What problem in your life can you look at from a different angle to gain a different perspective or solution?

How Can Altering Your Perception improve your results IMMEDIATELY?

We know the saying the insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. Well, how do we change our habits and behaviors to do something differently? We need to look at our problems from an entirely different point of view to make changes.

When we shift our point of view, our attitude changes and we create a whole new level of understanding. We often can see something entirely new that we did not know existed before. Optical illusions demonstrate this as we see the portrait of either a young woman, or an old woman.

How to Shift Your Perception for NEW Results? If you have a problem that is causing you stress, try this.

  1. Notice your point of view. Where are your thoughts coming from? Gain some understanding of yourself here.
  2. Can you see someone else’s point of view? Try to think of how someone else might see the situation. If you can, write it out, so you can see both sides clearly. This will help you to release the emotions that you feel as you gain a new perspective.
  3. Can you shift your emotions even slightly after seeing a new perspective? If so, you have come a long way towards finding a new result.
  4. With time and practice, you will be able to be open to hearing other people’s perspectives that can plus or enhance your own. This new practice will create new results and experiences in your life.

Feedback -
How is this activity going? It is not easy to see another perspective. Help out your family members and be patient with each other.

Put it into Practice -
When you are struggling with a situation or problem, stop and think for a moment. What are the other perspectives? Am I seeing the whole picture, or am I trapped in my own limited thinking. Open up and find the unlimited possibilities in your life.

How to Think Critically for Problem Solving Success!

March 2, 2010

Weekly Goal - How to Think Critically for Problem Solving Success!

If you are a parent or an educator, you definitely know the importance of developing critical thinking skills with young people to help them to become capable problem solvers in their daily lives. If we could ensure that we are doing this with EVERY young person, we know that we would make a difference with young people’s lives.

Developing critical thinking skills is a two step process.

“The first occurs when learners (for the first time) CONSTRUCT IN THEIR MINDS the basic ideas, principles, and theories that are inherent in content. This is a process of INTERNALIZATION.  The second occurs when learners effectively USE those ideas, principles, and theories as they become relevant in learners’ lives. This is a process of APPLICATION.” (Wikipedia.org).

So how do we ensure that what we are teaching is first of all understood, and then second of all APPLIED in a young person’s life? This is the question of the century for most educators who try to make real world connections for young people to understand the relevance of what they are learning.

Try This FUN Activity for One Week –

How Can CRITICAL THINKING improve your results IMMEDIATELY?

Results – Is there someone in your family who is really good at decision making, problem solving or thinking critically? Have them share their stories with you so you can hear the process that is involved in their decision-making process.

How to Develop Critical Thinking/Reasoning Skills with a NEW Topic-

  1. Encourage note-taking so that teens can truly understand what they are learning. When you see something in writing, you have a simple way to recall this new information. http://www.headlinespot.com/for/kids/ Visit this site for “What’s NEW in the headlines for kids” and find some topics that your teen may find interesting. Everyone loves to talk about money, so see if you can generate a conversation on this headline- “Obama says stimulus bill saved a troubled economy.”
  2. Start a JOURNAL for learning new topics and ask teens to research The Stimulus Bill.
  3. Quizzes or questions that test understanding of new topics help teens to reinforce what they are learning. If you are a parent, just ask open ended questions (that start with what or how) to see if you can test your teen’s level of understanding on a certain topic.
    1. How did the stimulus bill save the economy?
    2. What examples can you give me?
    3. How will you use this information?
    4. How will this information help you?
    5. What will it help you do?
    6. Where did you read or hear about [topic]?
    7. Where else have you searched?

4.       See if your teen can think independently on the topic they are learning. Ask them questions to see if they can APPLY their knowledge

5.       Debate topics over the dinner table or while driving to soccer that originates with the concept first learned. Did the Stimulus Bill really create more jobs?

6.       Have teens use their prior knowledge about the topic to related their own insights and demonstrate their own understanding of the topic.

7.       Make this a fun activity and create your OWN stimulus plan! Offer an increase in allowance for behaviors you would like to reward.

Feedback -
How is this activity going? If teens are enjoying this, you will know. If they find it a bore, you will need to find a topic that interests them so that they will want to do some extra research online.

Put it into Practice -
Encourage teens to ask you to think critically. Have them ask YOU questions. With time, it will become a habit that will benefit the whole family.

Note: Substitute teacher for parent and classroom for family, and this activity can be conducted in the classroom for an excellent character education activity.

How to Use Your Intuition to Achieve Your 2010 Goals.

January 20, 2010

Your intuition is another faculty of the mind that you must practice to develop.  With time, your intuition can be a very powerful tool that will help guide you towards whatever it is that you want. It’s that “inner voice” that tells you to do this, or do that. Have you ever heard this voice, and didn’t act on it, and later realized that you had missed an opportunity for something that you really wanted? Everyone has done this, as it takes time to develop your intuition, then more time to trust it and even more time to act on it. Hopefully, this lesson will give you some tips of where to start with strengthening your intuitive factors.

Try This FUN Activity for One Week –

When your phone rings, see if you can guess who is calling you (without looking at your call display). Listen to that inner feeling you get. Write down how many times you were right. This is your intuition at work!

If someone pops into your mind, write down their name. You might suddenly think of someone and you don’t know why, and before you know it, you have forgotten. If you can write down their name, it will be easier for you to remember your intuitive flash.

See if you can remember a time when you had a gut feeling or hunch about something that later came to be true. Did you act on it? What happened? These are the first steps to trusting that quiet voice from within.

If you don’t seem to have any intuitive flashes, that is perfectly normal and ok. Not everyone can “hear” or “feel” their intuition without practice.

How Can Your INTUITION help you?

If you have ever had to make a decision and you wonder if the choice is the best one, you can use your INTUITION to guide you. There is no need to seek outside counsel when you learn to listen to your inner gut feeling.  When you first start to practice this skill, you may wonder if you are really hearing your intuition, and you may at first mistrust your feelings and discount them as nonsense. Just see what happens and practice, until you begin to trust yourself.

Results – Is there someone in your family who is really good at using their INTUITION? Have them share their stories with you so you can hear their thoughts on trusting their inner guidance.

How to Develop Your Intuition-

  1. Learn to become aware of your feelings. You will need to go somewhere quiet (I like to think before I go to sleep) and listen to what your body is telling you.
  2. Once you have heard some messages or insights, learn to trust your inner guidance.
  3. Start to act on small hunches and record your results.
  4. Continue to meditate, listen to the quiet voice from within and take small steps with this information you are gathering from your higher self.
  5. With time, you will have a sense of knowing when you act on your inner guidance. This is when you will step out with confidence and act on your hunches.

Feedback -
Check in with your family often and discuss their progress with their intuitive side.

Put it into Practice -
Hearing your intuitive messages takes practice and time. Some flashes of insight will come when you meditate. Others will come when you are in a relaxed state like exercising at the gym, or in the shower. You do not need to be asleep to access your higher self. Just learn to relax and let the insights flow!

Note: Substitute teacher for parent and classroom for family, and this activity can be conducted in the classroom for an excellent character education activity.
